The Plymouth City Patriots have made a brand new addition to their roster this week, bringing in the 6’ 7 Cameron Copeland.
Copeland, a 23 year old forward from Douglasville, Georgia, USA, will join the roster imminently and look to bring his own brand of unselfish basketball and tenacious defence.
Copeland comes to Plymouth via the Portuguese professional league, LPB playing for Imortal Albufeira, facing the likes of Sporting, Porto and Benfica, three European giants. He complimented his team well, averaging over 20 minutes a game and 11 points. Prior to his stint in Europe, Copeland spent two seasons as a senior and graduate student at the NCAA Division 1 college, Austin Peay, where in both years he played the majority of the season as a starter, coming off the bench only fifteen times in 57 games, starting 42 games for the Governors. Once again he averaged over 20 minutes, as well as managing more than a steal a game over the two seasons.
Head Coach Paul James wasn't in a hurry to select a new recruit, saying “we have a window of opportunity to bring in new players, which is until the end of February. We've been playing well of late, with a real team spirit and I was only going to add a player that will complement that. We took our time and I believe Cameron is that guy,” Coach James also added “he's a hard worker, scores the ball well and facilities just as well. The fans will enjoy his brand of basketball.”
